Breathe Better,
Sleep Sounder

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and chronic snoring aren't just nighttime nuisances. They're clinical signs that your airway is struggling. When the muscles of the throat and tongue lack proper tone, they collapse into the airway during sleep. This physically blocks your oxygen flow and forces your body into a stress response just to keep breathing.

How OMT Prevents Airway Collapse

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) is essentially physical therapy for your airway. We work on strengthening the muscles of the mouth and throat so your tongue learns to rest in its proper position against the palate. This creates a seal that keeps the tongue from sliding backward during sleep, which is what holds your airway open and clear throughout the night.

Recognizing the Warning Signs

If you or your child experience any of the following, it could be a sign that the airway is compromised:

  • Loud, chronic snoring or gasping for air during sleep
  • Waking up with a dry mouth or feeling mentally foggy
  • Restless sleep or waking up multiple times throughout the night
  • Feeling exhausted during the day even after a full night's sleep
  • Grinding teeth at night, which is often the body's attempt to reopen the airway

A Non-Invasive Alternative

If you've been prescribed a CPAP and can't tolerate it, you're not alone. Many people struggle with the mask, the noise, and the discomfort. OMT offers a different path. Instead of relying on a machine to force your airway open, we train the muscles to do it on their own. It can be used alongside CPAP, or in mild to moderate cases, as a standalone treatment.

A Collaborative Approach to Care

OMT is one piece of the sleep health puzzle. While we focus on muscle function and nasal breathing, we work alongside sleep physicians and other specialists to make sure nothing gets missed. If you haven't had a sleep study yet, we may recommend one to get a full picture of your respiratory health.
